Introduction
Today, most of us take delight in popular things. The question as to whether they are Biblical or not is irrelevant to us because we want things that are in vogue, fashionable and are praised amongst men, even if the heavens frown at it. We are a people, even inside the church, that like following the popular tides. Many Christians today decry unbeliever's derision which could come because they are just different from them. We are warned not to be like other nations. But are we a people like that today? I pray God will help us in Jesus Name. Amen.
A. What is Unusual?
Anything unusual is anything that doesn't happen everyday. It is something we (the flesh) are not used to. Something that looks fairy. It is something that often sounds untrue when we hear about it. It is "what the eyes hath not seen, the hears have not heard and hath not enter the heart of men . . . ." (1 Cor. 2:11)
B. Who is a Christian?
A Christian is anyone we find inside church. (Mat. 7:22) This definition is so because mostly, Pagans and Muslims don't attend or enter churches. (Rev. 22:15) Only those that have something to do, one way or the other, with Christ go to churches. May the Lord grant us understanding in Jesus Name. Amen.
C. Who is an Unusual Christian?
An unusual Christian is that Christian we don't see everyday; the one that is not common. The unusual christian will be any or all of the following. One who:
a. Believes in Jesus Christ and has accepted Him as their personal Lord and Saviour - John 1:12, 1 Cor. 5:17, 1 John 4:15; 5:5-20
b. Is doing God's Will - Mat. 6:33; 7:21-23
c. Is ready to die for their fellow Christians or the Gospel - Esther 4:16, John 15:12-13, Acts 7:54-60, Romans 8: 35-39; Daniel 3: 17-18
d. Is ready to be different from others - 2 Cor. 6:14-17, Daniel 1: 7-8
e. Share their possessions with others whilst expecting nothing in return - Acts 2: 43-47, Gal. 6: 9-10
f. Run away from sin - Gen. 39: 1-12, 1 Thes. 5:22, 1 John 5:17, 2 Tim. 2: 22
g. Is ready to face persecutions - 2 Cor. 12:10, 2 Tim. 3:12
D. Benefits of Being An Unusual Christian - ". . . he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him." Therefore, as many that chooses to be unusual, God has the following benefits for them:
a. Unusual grace - Roman 11:5, Eph. 4:7
b. Unusual promotion - Hebrews 11:6
Conclusion
It is the desire of God for His children to move from the realm of ordinary Christians to that of unusual Christians. That is the reason He says we are no longer slaves, but children and heirs with Christ. Then, we must change from being "just hearers" of the word, but doers of the word. May the Lord give us understanding in Jesus Name. Amen.
